Arinn Dembo has been a professional writer in the speculative fiction field since 1991. Her short stories and poetry have been published in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, H.P. Lovecraft’s Magazine of Horror, the Vancouver Courier, and various anthologies. In 2006 she was the first prize winner of the Best Fantastic Erotica Contest sponsored by Circlet Press, with her short story “Monsoon”. A collection of her published short stories and poetry, including Monsoon, has been published by Kthonia Press.
Since 1994, she has worked primarily as a reviewer and a developer in the computer gaming industry. She has built worlds and contributed background fiction to a number of popular PC titles, including Homeworld, Ground Control, Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, Homeworld: Cataclysm, and most recently Fort Zombie. Her largest creation to date has been the Sword of the Stars universe, which comprises the background fiction of Sword of the Stars and its three expansions, as well as Sword of the Stars 2. Her novel The Deacon’s Tale, set in the Sword of the Stars universe, was published by Lighthouse Interactive in 2008 and was re-printed as a full novel is 2011 by Kthonia Press in 2011. A new Sword of the Stars novel is slated for publication in 2013.
Dembo is currently the lead writer at Kerberos Productions, a Canadian game development studio based in British Columbia. The author is a member of the Science Fiction Writers of America and the Horror Writers Association as well as SF Canada. She has raised two lovely daughters and two degrees in science, one in Anthropology and a second in Classical Archaeology. She lives and works in Vancouver, BC.
Hi : My name is Janna Munkittrick-Colton. I am the Conference co-ordinator for the Ontario Association of Library Technicians/ABO.
We host a yearly conference in May; our most recent one has just finished and was very successful.
We had reached out to the Canadian Crime writers and had a very successful conference because of the relationship that we developed with them over the past year and the panel discussions that they hosted.
Next year we will be having another conference and have decided to reach out to other author groups and see if they would be interested in doing something similar or something of your own making.
The Crime writers hosted panel discussions each day at lunch and then we had an author extravaganza on the Thursday night.
My hope for next year is that we will be able to offer to our members a program from different genres.
This year the conference was virtual on Zoom; next year we are not sure if we will have on site and Virtual.
This is my initial outreach email to see if it might be something that you might be interested in or it could be a workshop on writing that would be offered for an hour or two one day.
